Stanley D. Hanks, age 93, of Houlton, WI, died December 7, 2016 at his home in Houlton.
Stan was born on August 22, 1922 to William and Zerilda (Miller) Hanks in Campton, Kentucky. When he was young, his family moved to Middletown, Ohio, where he attended grade school and graduated from high school. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he served during WWII. When he returned, he studied at Macalaster College in St. Paul, MN, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics.
In 1944, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Rozenberg. The marriage later dissolved, however, they were blessed with four children: Joel, Susan, Steve, and Scott.
Stan was an incredibly handy man who had a knack for troubleshooting, fixing, and repairing things, especially electronics. He used his talent while working at Groveland Appliance in St Paul, which later moved to Richfield. He later started Hanks Construction and Real Estate. Aside from his career and entrepreneurship, he had a real interest in geometry, astronomy, and science.
He is survived by his soul partner of 32 years, Nancy Rud of Houlton, WI; children, Susan (David) Mowen of Robbinsdale, MN, and Steve (Janet) Hanks of Hudson, WI; four grandchildren: Jeff (Faith) Hanks, Mary (Josh) St. John, Wendy Hanks, and Tabitha (Jason) Odel; nine great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hanks of Milwaukee, WI; and Nancy Rud’s children: Honorine (Steve) Gedatus, of Woodville, WI, Michelle (Todd) Lecander of Menomonie, WI, and Maurice (Greg) Schillinger of Wilson, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Joel and G. Scott; and eleven siblings.
Funeral Service for Stan will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2016 at Bible Baptist Church, 545 6th St. N, Hudson. Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the family. Funeral services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, WI.
