Steven Carl “Jupe” Houman, age 79, of Hudson, passed away at his home on Wednesday afternoon, June 1, 2011. He was born the son of Stephen and Laura Houman on April 30, 1932 in Hudson. Jupe graduated from Hudson High School, where he had been a member of the boxing team. From 1952 – 54, he served in the US Navy as a “Sea Bee”, doing construction and engineering. On October 28, 1952, Jupe was united in marriage to Helen Ann Johnson in Hudson. They were blessed with seven children.
Jupe was a life member and active volunteer of the Hudson Rod, Gun, and Archery Club. He participated in shooting trap, skeet, and BB, and he assisted with the youth day programs. Jupe was passionate about woodcarving, and was an avid collector of duck decoys. He enjoyed hunting (esp. raccoon and deer), fishing, and trapping. He loved to garden, and liked to find a good garage sale. Jupe was a friend to all. His honesty, generosity, and kindness will be greatly missed.
Jupe will remain in the hearts of his wife of 58 years, Helen; children: Diane Blihovde (David), Ron Houman (Beth), Tom Houman (Kim), Dan Houman, Ken “Knute” Houman, and Carie Dierks (Jamie); 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Ann Houman; brothers, Charles “Bill” and Bob Houman; and his sister, Lorraine Navarro.
A Celebration of Jupe’s Life will be held at 2:00 on Monday, June 6th at Faith Community Church, 777 Carmichael Rd, in Hudson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church and on Sunday, June 5th from 3 until 7:00pm at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, 715-386-3725.
