Sue Hiniker, age 88 of Prescott, died Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Regions Hospital following an unexpected medical emergency.

Sue was born on May 26, 1936 in Red Wing, Minnesota the daughter of Irwin and Helen (Cremer) Magee. Sue attended elementary school in Prescott before graduating from Derham Hall High School in St. Paul in 1954. She would further her schooling at Barry College in Miami, Florida where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics in 1958.
On June 28, 1958, she walked down the aisle at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Prescott and said, “I Do” to a young man from Hastings. H. Peter Hiniker and Sue Magee were married and embarked on 66 years of marriage, which included the addition of six children. Sue was through and through a homemaker who cherished her family. She was a true matriarch who took the greatest pride in tending to her family. She loved hosting family dinner events and enjoyed planning parties with fun hors d’oeuvres, even teaching a class at the local high school. Sue thoroughly enjoyed traveling and had wonderful family filled memories whether to Florida, Mexico or Europe. If you knew Sue, you came to appreciate her devotion to her faith. Her Catholic faith was evident in her daily routine and the care in which she raised her children. Her rosary was worn out as she recited it daily, praying for her family and friends well-being. Sue also enjoyed working with young girls as the first woman Field Director for the Miss Wisconsin pageant, as well as the Girl Scouts for numerous years.

Sue will remain in the hearts of her husband H. Peter; children Michael Hiniker, Peter (Melody Dikkers) Hiniker, Mary (Larry) Johnson, Mark (Tina) Hiniker, Craig Hiniker and Nancy (Ramon) Perez; grandchildren Tori, Tyler, Tara Johnson, Sophia, Michael Perez; brother-in-law Edward Hiniker, sisters-in-law Allene Hiniker and Mary Magee. Preceded in death by her parents Irwin (Helen) Magee, brothers John Magee and Robert (Gayle) Magee, sister-in-law Joan Hiniker and brother-in-law John Hiniker.

Mass of Christian Burial for Sue Hiniker will be 11am, Wednesday, June 19th at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Prescott. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior, from 9am to 11am at St. Joseph’s Church.

Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Prescott.

  1. I am so sorry to hear of Sue’s passing. She was a very important part of my life as she hired me to help with her family as a babysitter during my junior high summers taking care of Peter, Mary Catherine, and Mark. She was always kind and caring for everyone around her. In recent years I was so happy to run into her when I was home in Prescott and catch up with her and how she was doing. Sadly, my most recent visits with her were at Bob and Gayle’s funerals. I was very lucky to have her as part of my teen life.
My deepest sympathy to her children and her extended family.
    Terri Maiola

  2. Sue was the ultimate neighbor to me! I live across the street & when my children were loud & I apologized, she said ‘No worries, I love to see the kids have fun’. She shared their property, beach & fun with us. She was never crabby (even when it was understandable), only always welcome & kind. I am so sad she is no longer with us all.

  3. I knew Sue through her daughter Nancy who I was lucky to have as a student. Sue kindly wrote up pages describing the food from her trip to Russia. Nancy was in my Foreign Foods class. She welcomed me into her home as her home was flooding. We shared a friendship with Elna Bryan. Condolences to her family! Mary St. John
