Terrance Barker

Terrance Herbert Barker, age 69, of North Hudson, passed away on March 24, 2012 in Sun City West, AZ.

Terrance was born on April 26, 1942 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Herbert and Marian (Johnson) Barker. On June 15, 1979 he married Vicki Lynn Score at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson.

Terry was a graduate of Hudson High School class of 1960.  He later joined the Army National Guard and served his country in 1960 and 1962, where he was activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  He later completed his education at St. Paul Vocational School in St. Paul.  He continued his ongoing education while employed for the United Stated Postal Service for the many responsibilities he had there; maintenance, management, mechanical maintenance and inspection of boilers and elevators, and computer IT training.

He retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years of dedicated service. At the beginning of his career, he was a supervisor in Bulk Mail Center in St. Paul.  Following that, he began working as a mechanical inspector for boilers and elevators in Minnesota and Wisconsin, out of his office in downtown St. Paul.  He was also an unofficial computer troubleshooter and many of the other inspectors throughout the country mailed him their computers for installations and repairs.

Terry was a master of all trades. He was skillful at plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and was a computer expert. He loved cooking, baking, working in the yard, gardening, and feeding his birds. He was very passionate about woodworking and made Adirondack chairs, beautiful mantels, and gun cases for his family. He carried his woodworking abilities into house building and remodeling (his own houses) and he was general contractor for Christ Center Assembly of God Church when it was first being built in Hudson. He also was a leather maker and made many belts and other articles.   He served for several years as the maintenance manager on the Home Owners Association Board for The Ridges, where he and Vicki lived in North Hudson.  He also served on the Board of Operation Help for a few years.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman (only when the conditions were perfect, though!), and was a collector of guns, antiques, inkwells, pens, and belt buckles. His collection of classic cars inspired him to join a Christian car club, where he established some great, everlasting friendships. He also enjoyed travelling with his wife, Vicki, and they made many wonderful trips over the 33 years that they were together. He also enjoyed going on bike rides and walks with Vicki.  He loved wintering in Sun City West, Arizona where he and Vicki had a vacation home.

The most important purpose of his life was that he loved our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and lived for Him and wanted others to know Him.  He was a wonderful example of a Godly husband and father who left a wonderful spiritual inheritance to his children and grandchildren.  Matt. 25:21:  Well done, good and faithful servant.

Terry fought to live and battled with lymphoma for 6 years.  He wanted to live and not to leave his family. The Lord called him home because He knew his body couldn’t take any more sickness or treatments.  II Tim 4: 7-8:  I have fought the good fight and have finished the race.  I have kept the faith.

Terry was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Barker; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marvin and Alice Score.

Terry is survived by his wife of 33 years, Vicki; children, Melissa Dudrey of River Falls, Terry A. Barker of Hudson, Lisa (Brian) Neuberger of Cottage Grove, Ross (Karen) Goulette of Hudson, and Ryan (Elizabeth) Goulette of Hammond; grandchildren, Travis Wichman, Kyle Dudrey, Austin Dudrey, Ashley Barker, Danielle Ziemek, Benjamin Neuberger, Alexander Neuberger, Joshua Neuberger, Olivia Goulette, Samuel Goulette, Lauren Goulette, Richie Schulte, Johanna Schulte, and Abigail Goulette; great-grandchildren, Lillean, Adrianna, and Haedyn; mother, Marian Barker of North Hudson; brother, Jon (Suzanne) Barker of Amery; brother-in-law, Daniel (Sally) Score and Doug (Sandy) Score; along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.  He is also survived by his former wife, Dorothy King (mother of Melissa and Terry).

Funeral Services for Terry will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Christ Center Assembly of God, 810 Northview Dr., Hudson. Visitation will be held the previous evening, Tuesday, April 3 from 4-7 p.m. at the O’Connell Funeral Home, 520 11th St. S., Hudson. 715.386.3725
