Thomas D. Mccorison

d. March 31, 2025

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Thomas Dean McCorison, age 67, of Spring Valley, WI. Tom passed away on March 31, 2025, at his home in rural Gilman Township.

Born on December 21, 1957, in Duluth, Minnesota, Tom was the beloved son of George and Dorothy McCorison. He grew up attending Faith Lutheran Church where his faith was deeply rooted in the service and generosity of Christ. After graduating from Duluth Central High School in 1976, his passion for learning and problem-solving led him to vocational college, and eventual certification as a master electrician/IT specialist. He excelled in his career, with skill and dedication at Mintac Mines, FMC, Ford Motor Company, The Minneapolis Star Tribune and retiring from Xcel Energy Company.

During the summer of 1976 Tom met Karen High while performing together in the musical George M! They were married on December 29, 1979, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Their 45 years of marriage were blessed with five wonderful children: Mayme, Anna, Erica, Benjamin, and Phillip. Tom embraced fatherhood with all his heart, and his role as a dad—and later, as a grandfather—was one of his greatest joys.

A man of simple pleasures and deep passions, Tom had an unmistakable love for all types of farming equipment, tinkering with projects, and problem-solving—he could fix just about anything. He was a devoted Disney enthusiast, cherishing family trips to Disney World, where he and Karen even honeymooned. Watching movies with his family, savoring ice cream, and enjoying his signature watered-down Diet Mountain Dew were just a few of the little joys that made him smile.

Tom had a generous spirit, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, yet he was a man who rarely asked for help himself. He was known for his kindness, his unwavering work ethic, and the deep love he had for his family. His presence will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love and generosity will live on in the lives of those he touched.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Karen; their children: Mayme (Conner) Simms, Anna (Jamil) Mangan, Erica (Tyler) Phelps, Benjamin McCorison, and Phillip (Cassandra) McCorison; his beloved grandchildren: Kennedy, Phoebe, Sydney, Rowan, Guinevere, and Collins; his mother, Dorothy McCorison; and his mother-in-law, Mary High. He is further survived by his siblings: Steven (Shari) McCorison, Jennifer (Darrell) Pedersen, Julie (Miles) Schumacher, Carol (Arthur) Gist, Daniel (Mary Jo) McCorison, and David (Nicole) McCorison, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

He was welcomed into heaven by his father, George, and was also preceded in death by his infant sister, Tammy.

A memorial service to honor Tom’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church (511 Groveland Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55403).
