Thomas Hahn

Thomas Fredrick Hahn, age 71 of Hudson, WI and formerly of Arlington Heights, IL died unexpectedly of natural causes November 27, 2019 at his home. Tom was born on November 14, 1948 in Elgin, IL; the son of Fredrick and Helen (Ankele) Hahn. He was raised in Arlington Heights, graduating from high school before furthering his education at the University of Illinois where he received a bachelor’s degree in engineering.  For many years, he worked for Signode (now Illinois Tool Works) as an engineer. Tom was a bachelor who loved eating popcorn for dinner until he met the love of his life, Marcie ‘Mouse’ Shaw. They were united in marriage and made Arlington Heights their home. Sadly, Mouse preceded him in death after a courageous battle with cancer.

Tom was a proud native of Arlington Heights. He was a good neighbor and loyal friend. Totsie, as he was affectionately known, was very active in the community and well known for his dedicated volunteer work with Frontier Days and the Historical Society. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, he recently began to winter in Arizona and took great pleasure in going to see his Cubbies at spring training. He enjoyed taking his motorcycle out for a ride and was an auto enthusiast. He enjoyed his ‘57 Thunderbird from 1964 to 2017, restoring it to its pristine condition along the way. He loved cars, going to classic car auctions, and riding the Road America course. In 2017, he moved to Hudson to be closer to one of his daughters and grandchildren. He loved big and was loved back by many.

Tommy or Totsie, as he is known to his family and friends, will remain in the hearts of his children, Bridgette (Gareth) Shaw-Bane, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Kelly (Mike) Nakashima of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Parker, Adilyn, Emma, and Theodore; siblings, Steve Hahn of Elgin, IL, Fred (Deborah) Hahn of Springfield, IL, Cynthia Hahn of Colorado Springs, CO, John (Cathy) Hahn of Algonquin, IL, as well as his aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Pamela.

A time to gather with friends and family will be held on Sunday, December 15 from 2:30-5:30pm with a short service immediately following at 5:30pm at First United Methodist Church, 1903 E. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights, IL 60004. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Cancer Wellness Center, 215 Revere Drive, Northbrook, IL 60062.
