Thomas George Nau, age 68, of Hudson, passed away suddenly on July 11, 2011. He was born the son of Earl and Clara (Stoss) Nau on December 29, 1942 in St. Paul. Tom graduated from Roseville High School in 1961. Throughout his life he was always learning and earning certifications. For over 20 years, Tom worked as an industry supervisor with the Minnesota Department of Corrections; he retired in 1997.
On September 3, 1966, Tom was united in marriage to Susan Omann at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Roseville, MN. They were blessed with two daughters, Carrie and Pam.
Feeling it was his duty to serve the community, Tom was always volunteering and assisting his neighbors. He was a volunteer first responder and firefighter with the Lower St. Croix Valley Fire Department, past member of the St. Croix Beach City Council, and he was very active in his church. Tom loved old cars; he owned a few along the way, attended car shows, and was filled with knowledge about them. He was always an animal lover, seeming to have a special kinship with them; especially his Yorkie, Shelby. Above all, Tom loved-loved-loved being a grandpa! He supported all of his grandchildren by attending their events and cheering them on, helping with first cars, and taking genuine interest in their lives. He was a private and humble man who will be missed by all who knew him.
Tom will live on in the hearts of his wife of 44 years, Susan; daughters, Pam (Don) Heldt and Carrie (Doug) Johnson, both of Hudson, and Ester (Brent) Wilson of Bristol, VA; seven grandchildren: Jake (Carissa), Savannah (JJ), Andrew, Emma, Charles, Mary Catherine, and Maria Ester; his father, Earl Nau of Wahkon, MN; brother, James (Patti) Nau of St. Paul; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Lebuda, Edna Brown and Kay (Herb) Braun; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara; brother, David; nephew, Timothy; parents-in-law, George and Helen Omann; and sister-in-law, Marge Mittelstadt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Tom at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 18th at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 16770 13th Street, Lakeland MN. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to Mass at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to donor’s choice are preferred. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, 715-386-3725
