Thomas R. Smith

Thomas R. Smith, age 63, of Hudson, WI, formerly of Auburn, IN, passed away peacefully at home on March 10, 2025. Tom led a life characterized by quiet devotion and unwavering support for his loved ones. He was born on June 13, 1961 in Huntington, Indiana, to parents Susan and Thomas E. Smith. He graduated from Huntington North High School with the class of 79’. Continuing his education, he attended Purdue University, joined the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, and earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

He married the love of his life and best friend, Lisa Hartman, on October 21, 1989 and together they were blessed with two sons.

Tom was not only a devoted family man but also a proud member of the Masons, Mizpah Shrine, Scottish Rite, and Elks. In 1996 he held the position of Master of Masonic Lodge 214 in Auburn, Indiana. He cherished the time spent parading in the Racing Shriners with his father, creating many treasured memories.

A true servant to his community, Tom volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, enjoyed being involved at the Auburn Presbyterian Church, and donated over 12 gallons of blood throughout his lifetime for the American Red Cross. He shared countless adventures with his sons during Boy Scout trips, instilling in them the values of service, leadership, and the importance of community.

Once he became a Papa, his life revolved around his granddaughters. He enjoyed taking them to the park and spending time with them. In his free time, you could find him watching his favorite sports teams or hanging out with friends, family and his dog Sadie at local breweries.

Tom is survived by his loving wife Lisa; children Taylor (Kristie) Smith and Nicholas (Jordan) Smith; granddaughters Emerson, Amelia, and Adley; parents Susan and Thomas E. Smith; sister Amy (Sam) Niswander; mother-in-law Jenny Hartman; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his sister Libby Russell and father-in-law Don Hartman.

A funeral service honoring Tom’s life will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, WI. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m.
