Douglas W. Torgerson, 93, of Hudson, WI, passed away early on December 5, 2019 at Christian Community Home. Doug was born on February 15, 1926, in Deer Park, WI, to parents Harry and Amanda Torgerson. He graduated from New Richmond High School in 1943 and went on to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before graduating, he joined the US Navy V-12 program, earning a Bachelor of Naval Science degree from Northwestern University. He also earned his commission as an ensign and then served in the Pacific during 1946-47. After his naval service, he returned to the University of Wisconsin, completing his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1949 and earning his CPA in 1954.

After graduation Doug worked for Bendix Aviation in South Bend, IN as an internal auditor. In 1951 he began a 35-year career in finance at 3M in St Paul, MN. He relocated briefly to Waukesha WI, followed by 22 years in Bedford Park, IL, before returning to St Paul as financial manager for 3M’s Asia Pacific area. He retired in 1986….and then spent the next decade selling real estate with Century 21.

He married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Beverley Askey, on August 22, 1947.  They were married for 70 years and blessed with three children and four granddaughters. Doug was an avid golfer, playing twice a week for much of his life. He also enjoyed his annual fishing trip, boating on the St. Croix River, and cross country skiing. He generously volunteered  many hours of his time to his church homes in LaGrange, IL and Hudson, WI, Boy Scouts, Lion’s Club, Christian Community Home, and other organizations. He was an avid reader and life-long Badger/Packer/Cub fan. Doug and Bev loved jitterbugging to Big Band music, threw numerous memorable parties, and expanded their world with frequent US and international travel adventures.

Doug will remain in the hearts of his children Kathy (Evan) Klingsberg of Newtown Square, PA, Eric (Layne) Torgerson of Kauai, HI, and Robin Torgerson of Pine River, MN, along with granddaughters Erin, Ali, Kendall, and Juliette, and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his wife Bev,  parents, brother Robert (Pearl), and sister Genevieve (Melvin) Heibel.

Visitation will be Monday  January 6, 2020, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, and at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at the Hudson United Methodist Church just prior to the funeral service, which will begin at 11 a.m. at church.

Doug has asked that memorials to his decades-long church home, the Hudson United Methodist Church, be considered.

Douglas's Tribute Wall

Tributes (2):

    • Doug Torgerson’s Family

Wanted to extend my deepest sympathies for the loss of Doug.

I got to know Doug while working together at Century 21 in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Doug was a great guy and fun to work with. He had a great sense of humor and a very caring heart, often times going above and beyond the call of duty to serve his clients. I have many fond memories of those times with Doug.

I hope the many fond memories you hold help ease your pain in this difficult time and find peace that now Doug & Bev are reunited in heaven and probably doing a little jig together.

      Rest in peace my friend.

      Jim Henry

    • Doug sold my husband and I our first home. He worked hard to get us a good buying price and his sense of calm gave me peace about making this big purchase. I have always had such great respect for him and when we bumped into each other I enjoyed talking to him. Reading his obituary, I wish I had known him better, what an adventurous and accomplished life he had.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you as you say good-bye to your beloved Father, Father-in-law and Grandfather.

      Sincerely,
      Lisa Larson
