Trudy Lee Herald Loney, age 71 of River Falls, passed away December 26, 2022 in Rochester, MN during open heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic.

Trudy was born on October 16, 1951 in Baldwin, WI, the only child of Duane and Anita (Peterson) Herald. She attended elementary and secondary school in the Baldwin-Woodville School District, graduating in 1969. Trudy attended the University of Wisconsin – River Falls from the fall of 1969 until graduating in June of 1973 with degrees in Elementary Education and Library Science.

She began her professional career teaching elementary school at Waupaun, WI and thoroughly enjoyed the five years she spent there. Later in life she taught in the Baldwin-Woodville, River Falls and Hudson School Districts in Wisconsin and for many years at Afton-Lakeland Elementary School in Minnesota.

On July 29th of 1978 Trudy was united in marriage to Richard Duane Loney, son of Oscar and Margaret Loney of Baldwin. The union was richly blessed with four children, a son who passed away shortly after birth and three terrific daughters: Kristin, Emily and Jenny. Rich and Trudy spent virtually their entire married life in the River Falls area, living in town until 1989 when they moved to a country home northwest of town.

Trudy was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church, first of all at Baldwin Evangelical Lutheran and Gethsemane Lutheran in Baldwin, then at Ezekiel Lutheran in River Falls. She loved flower gardening and spending time outdoors enjoying nature. Trudy was fond of playing with her grandchildren, and treasured the time they spent together making crafts and other projects.

Trudy is survived by her husband of 44 years, Rich; daughters Jenny Loney and Kristin (Gavin) Wiersma, both of River Falls, and Emily (Paul) Ware of Waukesha, WI. Grandchildren include Christopher (age 5) and Isabella “Izzy” (age 7) of Waukesha and Tegan (age 6) and Caiden (age 9) of River Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, Duane and Anita Herald.

A funeral service for Trudy will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls. Visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

  1. We loved working with Trudy at Afton Lakeland. She was so dedicated with helping children learn how to read. She will be missed.

  2. I am heartbroken that Trudy passed away. Trudy was a fighter, never giving up. Trudy and I were cousins. We grow up on the same street in Baldwin. Our families were very close enjoying many family gatherings. I have many special memories of Trudy. I loved her so much. My love to Rich and Kristin , Emily and Jenny and their families. Love, Marleen
