Truman Edward Gossel, age 83 of St. Paul, [retired Sergeant United States Army], formerly of Woodville died peacefully Thursday June 16, 2011 at his residence. Truman was born on October 21, 1927 in Woodville, Wisconsin; the son of Albert and Thelma (Johnson) Gossel. He was raised in Woodville where he attended school. As a young man, he enlisted in the armed forces and proudly serviced in the United States Army. He worked in food service for the Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was discharged a Sergeant. On March 18, 1974, he was united in marriage to Myong Ki “Susie” Yi in Seoul, Korea. They loved each other very much and have made their home in St. Paul for many years. Upon his retirement and 24 years from the Army, he worked several years for a bakery in St. Paul. His passion in retirement was volunteering for the Second Harvest Food Shelf in St. Paul. Over the years, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing at the lake, and reading.
He will remain in the hearts of his wife and best friend Susie of St. Paul, siblings Celia (David) Freiberg of Woodville, Jeanette Hansen of Osceola, Marvin Gossel of Woodville, Gordon (Vivian) Gossel of Iowa, and his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Vernon.
A Celebration of Truman’s Life will be on Friday June 24th from 1PM until 3PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin. Private burial/services with full military honors provided by the Woodville American Legion Post #301 will be in the Lone Pine Cemetery in Woodville. Memorials are preferred.
