Vernon A. Vandenberg

Vernon A. Vandenberg, 99, died peacefully with his family at his bedside on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Baldwin Care Center. Vernon was born February 29, 1920 at home in Pleasant Valley, WI to parents Ernest & Jennie (Lindus) Vandenberg. He graduated from Baldwin High School. He proudly served in U.S. Navy for three years during WWII as a carpenters mate third class. Vernon went on to work as a painter & wallpaper installer out of his own shop in Baldwin for a few years. After closing the shop, he started a beef farm. Vernon had a great love of hunting & fishing. He lived at home with the support of good neighbors, friends, & family until the age of 98. Vernon’s family would like to extend a heart-filled thank you to the staff at Baldwin Care Center, Adoray Hospice, & all who cared for him over the past few months. It has been greatly appreciated.

Vernon is survived by his nieces & nephews, James (Terry) Vandenberg, Gerald (Nancy) Vandenberg, Jill (Bruce Anderson) Falde, Dennis Vandenberg, & Janet Lane; step-grandchildren, Honorine (Steve) Gedatus, Maurice (Greg) Schillinger, Michelle (Todd) Lecander; & stepdaughter-in-law, Nancy Rud.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest & Jennie; two brothers, Orval & Russell; sisters-in-law, Frances & Ruby; nephews, Richard, Steven, & Stanley; & his faithful canine companion, Pete.

A Memorial Gathering for Vernon will be held on Monday, May 13th from 10:30-1:00 P.M. at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin, with a Public Sharing of Memories at 11:00 A.M, followed by a lunch. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Woodside Cemetery, Baldwin, following the memorial luncheon. Memorials are preferred to Adoray Hospice, 2231 Hwy. 12 Suite 201, Baldwin, WI 54002, or to the St. Croix County Animal Friends, P.O. Box 1169, Hudson, WI 54016.
