Vivian G. Hart

Vivian Gayle Hart of Hudson, Wisconsin died from complications of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma on May 31, 2015 at home in the presence of dear family members. Vivian was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota and was a proud graduate of Duluth Central High School and the University of Minnesota Duluth where she majored in English.

Vivian was formerly the editor of Minnesota Monthly magazine, a non-profit administrator specializing in communications and development and principal of her own consulting business, Hart Community Consulting. 

As a community activist in West St. Paul, Minnesota where she resided with her husband and son for more than twenty years, Vivian served on the City Council as well as numerous boards of directors and committees all focused on community-building and helping those in need. After moving to Hudson in 2003, Vivian continued her dedication to volunteer and community work.

Among the volunteer service awards that Vivian received were Dakota County’s Award for Volunteer Leadership, West St. Paul’s Make a Difference Award and A Community Superstar Award from the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre for her efforts on behalf of cancer survivors.

Vivian leaves behind her husband and closest friend Aethan Hart, her cherished son Eli and his wife Angie, precious grandchildren Claire and Sam, mother Maxine Nelson, and siblings Conrad Nelson (Carol) and Becky Nelson. Robert C. Nelson, Vivian’s dad, predeceased her, as did her in-laws Avon and Viola Hart.

A Memorial Service for Vivian will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church Highlands Campus, 504 Frontage Rd in Hudson, on Saturday, June 6th at 11:00 am with a lunch reception following at the church. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the church. To honor Vivian, all in attendance are encouraged to wear purple. A private interment will be held at the Havana Cemetery near Owatonna, Minnesota where generations of Hart family members have found their final resting places. Memorials preferred to Grace Place, 505 West 8th Street, New Richmond, WI 54017. Services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, WI. 715-386-3725
