Walter J. “Jim” Rigwald Jr., age 66 of Roberts WI and formerly of St Paul MN, died on Thursday, August 14, 2014 of sarcoma related to exposure of Agent Orange. Walt was born on May 31, 1948 to parents Walter J. Sr. and Shirley Ann (Jewell) Rigwald. After graduation from Monroe High in St Paul, Walt served our Country in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Walt was best known for his work as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service and in Real Estate. Due to his personable, kind and caring nature, he was well known and respected in both fields.
Walt enjoyed time spent at the cabin fishing and boating, John Deere tractors, Ford trucks, the Minnesota State Fair, and PBS shows. He loved music, and had a golden voice. Walt loved sharing his infectious smile, and just plain “having fun”. Family and friends were paramount to Walt. He valued the multitude of friendships he developed over the years. He loved his wife and children, and adored being grandpa. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to personally thank everyone that helped over the last two years, especially ””Dave””, the U of M doctors and Floor 7D.
Walt is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Wright; his children, Jim (Lori) Rigwald, Melissa (Tim) McCarthy, Ryan Rigwald, and Sandy’s children, Amy (Eric) Engen, Laurie Wright, and Jeff (Marlene) Wright; their grandchildren, Cooper, Finley, Ethan, Brooklyn, Kalli, Will, Jac and Landon; as well as siblings Dale and David Rigwald, and Pat Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services for Walter J. Rigwald Jr. will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 20th at the Bethel Lutheran Church, 920 Third St in Hudson, WI. Burial with military honors will take place at 2:45pm at Union Cemetery in Maplewood, MN. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service at church, and also from 4:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, August 19th at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 11th Street S. in Hudson, WI. A photo sharing board will be made available for friends to bring and leave photos with the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family, and will later be used to benefit cancer research and veterans.
