Wayne Harmon

Wayne LeRoy Harmon, age 93 of Hammond, formerly of Hudson died Saturday August 20, 2011 at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond. Wayne was born on January 8, 1918 in Elroy, Wisconsin; the son of Oscar and Viola (Bemis) Harmon. He was raised in Elroy where he attended school. On August 22, 1937, he was united in marriage to Violet Ruth Dixon in Elroy. To this union, children Jerry, Graham, and Doug were born. Wayne worked for the railroad as a car man for many years. He began working for Chicago Northwestern, which then became Burlington Northern.   He also served as a railroad fireman attending crashes for cleanup or repairing/welding.   

Wayne had a great sense of humor and was easy going. He also enjoyed searching for antiques, glassware, or unique furniture.

Wayne is survived by his sons Jerry (Madonna) Harmon of Lakeland, Graham (Barb) Harmon of Hudson, Doug (Mary) Harmon of Roberts, eight grandchildren; Donovan (Kim) Harmon, Jerrolyn Berg, Felicia (Randi) Dunn, Gayle (Scott) Gerhardt, Cassandra (Scott) Kirton, Kirstin Harmon, Kevin (Lisa) Harmon, Christopher Harmon, 16 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Violet, brother Raymond, and great grandchild Stephanie Gerhardt.

Funeral service for Wayne will be 11AM on Wednesday, August 24th at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Burial will be in the Houlton Cemetery with casket bearers being Noah Harmon, Andrew Harmon, Gayle Gerhardt, Scott Kirton, Kevin Harmon, and Christopher Harmon. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at O’Connell’s on Wednesday morning. Memorials preferred.
