Wendy K. Hanson

d. October 4, 2016

Wendy K. Hanson (McConnell) passed away peacefully on October 4, 2016 at her home in Roberts Wisconsin, at the age of 64.

Wendy grew up in the Hayward Wisconsin area, and was particularly proud of her “hunter, trapper, trader” heritage. She graduated from Hayward High School and in 1973, married Mark Hanson, also of Hayward.  She pursued a degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of MN and worked in the hygiene field until 2012.  The couple eventually moved to Garland, TX and although the marriage dissolved, the couple was blessed with two sons and three grandchildren.  Wendy’s favorite thing in life was being a Mother and Grandmother.

Although Wendy left the Hayward area, her heart remained in Wisconsin.  She enjoyed the simple things in life: comfortable jeans, sweatshirts, flannel, Fall, cheap wine, beer, and laughter.  She had a wonderful laugh and throughout the last months of her life, she continued to laugh through Tosh.0 and America’s Funniest Home Videos.  She always wondered how “naughty” she could be and still get into Heaven.

Wendy had a creative side and enjoyed writing and reading poetry, especially Robert Frost.  She loved art, reading, gardening, movies, drinking “fountain Coke”, and cheesecake.  She was a romantic at heart and believed in fairytales and “happily ever after”.  Wendy also loved animals and will be missed by her cat “Six Toes” that spent his days curled up in her lap until the very end.

Wendy was a truly selfless person.  She never missed anyone’s birthday and took such care in choosing just the right card and/or present for her family and friends.  She made many sacrifices throughout her life for her family, without complaint.  She was always there for anyone, at any time, and there was no way to ever give back to her what she gave to others.

Heaven gained a true Angel this Fall, and the rest of us are left with memories…and her laugh.

Wendy was preceded in death by her parents, Wendall and Dorothy McConnell, her brother Ray McConnell, several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and a Niece.

Wendy is survived by her sons, Shay Hanson (Tomball, TX), Brady Hanson (Beaumont, TX), Granddaughter, Lily Hanson (Tomball, TX), Grandsons, Fynn and Liam Hanson (Nederland, TX), Brother and Sister-in-law Pat and Donna McConnell (Hayward, WI), Sister Bridget McConnell and Brother-in-law Chuck Schultz (Roberts, WI), Chris Rugowski (Hayward, WI) and Sister-in-law, Patty McConnell (Gillette, WY).   She is also survived by her nieces and nephews Allison (Tony)Boerger (Black River Falls, WI), Brett (Candi) McConnell (Hayward, WI), Jason (Angie) McConnell (Eau Claire, WI), Christopher (Trina) McConnell (Pierre, SD), Jenna McConnell (Gillette, WY), Jordan (Bradley) Moss (Gillette, WY), Kayleigh McConnell (Gillette, WY), and Josh (Stephanie) McConnell (Gillette, WY), Great Nieces and Nephews Ryan, Cassidy, Alex, Brody, Evan, Emmy, Olive, Ella, Londyn, Paisley, Adylin, Fallyn, Ronan, and Jameson, as well as many cousins and good friends.

The family would also like to thank the people that helped us care for Wendy during her illness, Nicole Lowery (Montgomery, TX), Tamera Heffron (Lakeland, MN), and Therese Spaight (Hudson, WI).

The scattering of the ashes will take place on October 29th in the Hayward area in a private ceremony with the family.  There will be an open house luncheon held that afternoon at Louie’s Landing beginning at 1:00 pm. Memorials are preferred to the family.
