William “Bill” F. Van Allen

William “Bill” F. Van Allen, age 88, of Hudson, WI, passed away on August 16, 2021 at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born on August 5, 1933 in Eau Galle, WI to George and Margaret (Lieffring) Van Allen. He attended school at Iverson Elementary, and graduated from Ellsworth High School.

He was united in marriage to Sally A. Holden on September 4, 1954 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth, WI. Their marriage would be blessed with five children: Raymond, Nancy, John, Joseph, and Richard.

Bill worked at the Hamm’s Brewery, in the warehouse at Hancock Nelson, and eventually retired from Inter City Paper Company. He was also a dedicated member of the Teamsters, serving on their board of trustees.

Bill was an avid bowler, loved reading mystery novels and solving daily crosswords and word finds. He was fond of a good burger, Kemps Vanilla Ice Cream with peanuts and chocolate syrup, and popcorn. Bill was also a loyal supporter of the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers, NCAA basketball finals, and baseball. He cherished time spent at the casino with his wife, Sally, on the lake fishing, and in the kitchen cooking.

He is survived by his children: Raymond (Cathey) of River Falls, WI, Nancy (Greg) Sarno of River Falls, WI, John (Leanne) of Hudson, WI, Joseph (Kris) of Dayton, NV, and Richard (Laurie) of Hudson, WI; 13 grandchildren: Ryan (Natalie) Riker, Sarah (Adam) Lokken, Christopher (Tammy), Michael (Hallie) Sarno, William Sarno, Morgan, Lily, Eric, Alex, Grace (Damian) McCoy, Kayla (fiancé Justin Weber), Julia and Jenna; 7 great-grandchildren: Avery, Cameron, Cooper, Brock, Madelynn, Blake, and Benjamin; and brother, Kenneth (Irene) of Hager City, WI.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Sally; brother, John; parents; and sisters-in-law, Colleen Frye and Mary Van Allen

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, August 23, 2021 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson. Being a sports enthusiast, it is only fitting to wear your favorite teams jersey! Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1500 Vine St., Hudson with a visitation held one hour prior to the Mass at 10:00 a.m. Private family interment will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Hudson.

Memorials are preferred to Adoray Home, Health, and Hospice.
