Charles Anthony Lonie, 76, of River Falls, died Wednesday, October 1 at his cabin in Danbury, WI.Charles was born on August 26, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY to Bridget “Betty” (Murtha) and Charles Walter Lonie. He married Patricia \”Patsy\” Ann Pollack in Richmond, VA on June 10, 1961. They had two children, Christopher and Jessica.Charles attended Randolph Macon College, Notre Dame, and in 1974 received his Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Minnesota. Charles was professor of English at UW River Falls from 1965-1995, where he served on many faculty governance committees, including time as chair of the Faculty Senate, and was very involved with the Semester Abroad program. Charles’ passion in life was travel, especially in Europe. He loved words, good wine, food, golf, and spending time in the north woods.Charles is preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by son Christopher (Christine) Lonie of Kailua, HI, daughter Jessica (Christopher) Cross of Minneapolis, MN, grandchildren Charles and Lily Mooney, and brother Patrick (Linda) Lonie.
