Robert Carl Heppner

Robert Carl Heppner, 89, of Chippewa Falls, WI, formerly of Maiden Rock, died Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Chippewa Manor, Chippewa Falls, WI.

Bob was born on August 17, 1926 in Colby, WI the son of Robert and Katherine (Steingberger) Heppner.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, where he was a witness to the atomic bomb explosion on Hiroshima.

Bob started his trucking career at the age of 13, driving logging trucks in Northern Wisconsin. He continued his career with Ruan, Indianhead, and later owning and operating a mail truck and routes to the twin cities. He later retired from the teamsters union. On February 27, 1970 Bob married Rhea Hase. In 1983 after his retirement he and Rhea built the Red Barn Antique Mall, in rural Spring Valley. They retired in 2003 and enjoyed every moment at their farm in Maiden Rock, WI.

In Bob’s spare time he enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Rock Damn, in Clark Co., and water skiing, pontooning, and snowmobiling. His love for horses was a special time in his life, which led to giving many hay rides and sleigh rides, and the Waverly Horse Sales, which he enjoyed immensely.

Bob will be remembered for his love of family, his horses, and his crazy sense of humor!

Bob is survived by his wife, Rhea, of Chippewa Falls, WI.
Children: Brian White, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Brenda (Joe) Stangl, Spring Valley, WI; Deborah (Victor) Offutt, Treasure Island, FL; Bradley (Giselle) White, Elk Mound, WI; Bridget (Marv) Pehlke, Baldwin, WI; Bruce Heppner, Medford, WI; and Bernadine “Bernie” (Jay) Jaquish, Chippewa Falls, WI.

11 Grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren

Brother in-law Fredrick “Mick” (Mary Lou) Hase, Prescott, WI.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, parents in-law Hartzel and Bernice Hase, and sisters Stell, Barney, Cutsie, Johnny and Chot.

A visitation for Bob will be from 4-8pm on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the Hill Funeral Home, 130 N. Grant St, Ellsworth, WI. A private family funeral with burial in the Maiden Rock Cemetery, will be held.
