Bernard John Meacham

Bernard John Meacham, 95 of Colfax, formerly of Ellsworth, died Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Colfax Health and Rehab. Center, Colfax, WI.

Bernard was born on April 24, 1922 to Clifford and Otilla (Zirnhelt) Meacham in Pierce County. Bernard attended and was a graduate of Ellsworth High School in 1939. He was Ellsworth’s first Eagle Scout and was a great supporter of Scouting in Ellsworth. Following graduation Bernard went into the electrical business with his brothers as an electrician. He married Wanda Osterland in 1941 and together started a family. In 1942 Bernard joined the Army Air Corp and served for three and one half years, including six months on Iwo Jima. Following his discharge he went into the construction business, forming Homes, Inc. including plumbing, heating and wiring.

Bernard was a life member of Kinne-Englehart American Legion Post, 204, Ellsworth, Pierce County 40 et 8.

Bernard was an avid old car collector, reader and aviator, which began with him getting his pilot’s license in 1964, and building his own bi-plane in his garage at home.

Bernard is survived by his wife, Wanda of Colfax. Daughters Dianne and Lo Anna, Nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and Daughter in-law Sharon. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his daughter Sharon Ann, son Michael, parents, brothers, Wilbur, Herman, Leon, and Clifford, Jr., sisters, Leona and infant Marjorie.

Funeral services for Bernard will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 6, 2017 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Ellsworth, WI. Burial will be in the Trimbelle Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M., with a time of remembrance at 9:30, until time of services at 11:00 A.M.

In Lieu of flowers it was Bernard’s wish that you would go out and visit the elderly or those who are shut-ins.
