Darrell David VandeBerg, age 84 of rural Prescott, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 6, 2018 while surrounded by his family. He now joins the love of his life, Betty, in eternal rest. Darrell was born April 17, 1934 in Oak Grove Township to parents Almon W. and Mabel M. (Most) VandeBerg. Darrell attended school in Prescott, and graduated from Prescott High School with the Class of 1952. Darrell furthered his education at UW River Falls for two years before joining his father on the family farm. Darrell was united in marriage to Betty Ann Rosenquist on May 28, 1955 in Saint Paul, MN. Their union in marriage was blessed with four daughters; Penny, Linda, Gayle, and Stacy.
Darrell loved life on the farm, but was more than just a farmer. He was a talented woodworker and metal fabricator as well. Darrell also drove school bus for many years. When he wasn’t busy working, Darrell enjoyed time spent with friends. Every Spring and Fall, he and his friends, known affectionately as “Darrell’s Diggers”, would venture out to dig horseradish. Above all, Darrell was a family man who cherished time spent with his loved ones. His life was full from the love and laughter he was able to share with others along the way. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Darrell is survived by his daughters, Rev. Penny Entringer, Linda (Dean) Speetzen, Gayle (Robert) VandeBerg , and Stacy (John) Rogers; grandchildren, Corrine (James) Price, Rebecca (Matt) Dickinson, Ian (fiancée Rose) VandeBerg-Smith, and Hannah VandeBerg-Smith; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Rachel, Conner, and Kaitlyn; sister, Judy VandeBerg of Hastings MN; brother-in-law, Delmore (Liz) Rosenquist; daughter-at-heart, Tina (Hans) Buckley; son-at-heart, Doug (Kim) Nelson; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; his sister, Marilyn (Lloyd) Claassen; and son-in-law, Stephen Entringer.
A Memorial Celebration of Life for Darrell VandeBerg will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the Prescott United Church of Christ, 206 Locust Street in Prescott, WI. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services, and also from 4:00-8:00pm on Thursday, at the church. Darrell will be laid to rest at the Pine Glen Cemetery in Prescott. A celebration of life luncheon will be held at the Old Ptacek’s Event Center from 12:00-4:00pm following services at the church. Memorials may be given to the discretion of the family.
