Beulah Maye DuBois

Beulah Maye DuBois, age 84 of Shawano, WI, formerly of River Falls, passed away July 11, 2018 at the Atrium Post Acute Care Center in Shawano, WI. She was born March 19th, 1934 in Montgomery County, TN. Maye grew up and graduated high school in Montgomery County, TN. At the age of 21 she met Bernard “Bernie” DuBois on Sunday May 29th, 1955. Madly in love, they married 2 days later on Tuesday, May 31st, and spent a joyous 39 years together until Bernie passed away Feb 23rd 1995. After marrying a soldier her life became a great adventure filled with travel and journeys to all corners of the world. One of her fondest memories included spending 1 year in Okinawa Japan.

After Bernie’s retirement from the United States Army, they built a home and settled down in Cottage Grove, MN. While living in Cottage Grove, Maye volunteered as a Cub Scout Den mother, as well as doing further volunteer work at St. Rita’s Catholic Church.

In 1970 Maye and Bernie moved to Roberts, WI, and began attending St. Bridget’s Catholic Church. Bernie and Maye became very active with the church and its members. Maye obtained her CNA license and began working at various nursing homes in the area, including the Lutheran Home in River Falls, WI. She cared deeply for her residents and would often bring them home for holidays and celebrations. Maye assisted her husband in founding Boy Scout troop 161 in Roberts, WI and volunteered many hours in support of this organization.

In 1975 the family moved to River Falls, WI. Bernie and Maye opened their homes and their hearts to many foster children. In 1989 after raising their family, Maye and Bernie retired to milder climates in Tacoma, WA, where they lived until Bernie’s passing in 1995. Maye moved back home to River Falls, WI. In 1999 she moved to Shawano, WI with her daughter Agnes and remained there until her passing.

Maye enjoyed quilting and crocheting among other hobbies. She donated many of her homemade quilts to those in need.

Maye’s real passion was her family. She often said her greatest accomplishment was her children. She spent most of her time in retirement with her children and grandchildren. Maye was a strong women with a big heart. She was able to battle through leukemia, two bouts of breast cancer, and many other illnesses. Through it all she was able to keep her sense of humor and a spark for life.

Maye was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie; son, Robert DuBois; grandson, John Eberwine; her parents, Thomas and Minnie (Farrell) Hutchison; ten brothers; and one sister.

She is survived by her children: Pierre (Edna) DuBois of Tacoma, WA, Antoine (Sharon) DuBois of Lakewood, WA, Andre (Janie) DuBois of Rush River, WI, and Agnes DuBois of Shawano WI; stepson, John (Loanne) DuBois of Maplewood, MN; step daughter, Michelle (Joseph) Hoffland of Woodbury, MN; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held 5:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home, 225 S. Third St., River Falls, and one hour prior to Mass on Friday at church. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:30 AM Friday, July 20, 2018 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, 211 E. Division St., River Falls. Interment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
