Daryl Greenwood Donath

Daryl Greenwood Donath, age 75, of Prescott, WI passed away on November 16, 2018. She was born to Willard and Jean Greenwood in Chicago, IL on August 23, 1943. The family eventually moved to Long Lake, MN, where she grew up, graduated from Wayzata High School and went on to earn an AA Degree from Stevens College in Columbia, MO.

She was an adventurous and accomplished woman. She earned her “wings” after applying to TWA Airlines to become a Stewardess and receiving her training in Kansas City, KS. She joined her fiance’ Dennis in New York, where they were married on April 27, 1965 in Scarsdale, NY. They lived in Brooklyn, NY and later moved to Sayreville, NJ with their newborn son. Following a short stay there, they moved to Green Bay, WI where Dennis was in charge of the FDA field office. The family increased by one with the birth of their daughter, and shortly thereafter they moved to the Chicago area where her husband worked in the FDA regional office.

Their next move was to Minneapolis, MN at which time Daryl decided to return to the workforce. Having been a “people” person all of her adult life, she found a niche in the high end costume jewelry business and eventually became a supervisor of sales agents in several states, including Pennsylvania and Kansas. Along the way, she was Manager of a children’s clothing store, a position she lost after blowing the whistle on some upper level management fraudulent practices. She then switched fields and landed a position with a wholesale grocery store supplier, a job she held for several years.

Finally tiring of the frequent travel, Daryl took a chance and opened a store in the downtown historic section of Hastings, MN. The store was called “Peddlers Landing” and offered customers a variety of products for home and personal use.

Daryl was diagnosed with lung cancer in the late 1990’s and returned to her store after successful surgery. Being open seven days a week finally took a toll on her and she sold the store. She and her husband retired and enjoyed summers on their boat in Red Wing, and traveling with friends.

Daryl is preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Jean Greenwood.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dennis; son, JD; daughter, Leslie; five grandchildren, Julia, Johanna, Jacob, Megan and Matthew; sister, Joanna (Jerry).

There will be an Eastern Star Memorial Service at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 21st at the Ellsworth Masonic Center, 400 High Point Drive, Ellsworth, WI, followed by refreshments. A gathering of family and friends will be from 1:00-2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Animal Ark, Hastings, MN.
