Laurine Margaret “Rene” Baker, age 75 of Ellsworth, WI, passed peacefully on Monday, January 14, 2019 at her residence after courageously loosing her battle with pancreatic cancer. Laurine was born April 15, 1943 in Prescott, WI to parents Albert R. and Lucille J. (Hibbard) Frank. She attended school in Prescott and graduated from Prescott High School with the Class of 1961. Laurine was united in marriage to Dennis Lee Baker on August 26, 1961 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prescott. Their union would be blessed with four children, two generations of grandchildren, and over 57 years of love and devotion.
Rene was an exceptional wife and mom, and an even better grandma. Her family meant the world to her. She was talented with sewing and arts and crafts, especially embroidery, plastic canvas, blankets, and Swedish weaving. Through the years, she and Dennis enjoyed traveling North America by RV, as well as taking various trips to Europe and Australia. Anyone who knows Rene knows of her affinity for collecting angels. Though Laurine will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her in this life, her family takes comfort in knowing she is among the Angels in Heaven.
Laurine is survived by her loving husband, Dennis; her children, Jeffrey (Marcia) Baker, Lori (Donald) Schroeder, Teri (Rick) Pickle, and Michael (Annie) Baker; fourteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Gayle Schuffenauer; niece, Michelle (Jim) Polly; many in-laws from the Baker family, and countless dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Carol Schuffenauer.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church, 231 W. Woodworth St. in Ellsworth, WI beginning at 10am on Saturday, January 26. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am with Rev. Fr. Eric Awortwe-Dadson officiating. Memorials may be given in Laurine’s name to the donor’s preferred charity. A Celebration of Life luncheon will take place after mass in the parish hall.
