Mary Jo Kosiek

Mary Jo Kosiek, age 79 of Prescott WI, died on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Prescott Nursing and Rehab. Mary Jo was born on September 27, 1940 to parents Edward and Mary (Mann) Matzek. She attended school in Prescott, and graduated from Prescott High School with the Class of 1958. Mary Jo worked for many years at Armour Packing in South St. Paul, and also worked as a chemical dependency counselor at Burkwood in Burkhart WI. Mary Jo embarked on 41 years of sobriety, all while helping and touching the lives of many other people along the way.
Having been raised in Diamond Bluff, Mary Jo always considered herself a “Bluffer” and a “River Rat”. She enjoyed reading and doing word search puzzles. Known affectionately to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as “GiGi”, “Gamma”, “Grammie”, “Mommy Dearest”, and “Mommy D”, family was paramount to Mary Jo. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
Mary Jo is survived by her daughters, Debra Ryan, and Dawn (Barry) Parker; her grandchildren, Tara (Thom) Sprague, Derrick (Heather) Sanderson, Teresa Boehm, Carissa (Colin) Brown, and Garrett Ryan; great-grandchildren, Austin, Micah, and Lucas; special friend, Russell Jensen; siblings, Bernard “Butch” Matzek, and Pat Matzek; brother-in-law, Jack Ames; as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Darla Boehm; and siblings Lora, Mildred, Helen, Betty, Chuck “Buster”, and Bob.
Funeral Services for Mary Jo Kosiek will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 9 at Joy Lutheran Church, 1435 St. Croix Street in Prescott WI, with Pastor Steve Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church, and also from 4:00-8:00pm on Friday at the O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home, 1339 Orrin Road in Prescott. Mary Jo’s final resting place will be the Diamond Bluff Cemetery. Services are entrusted to the O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home of Prescott WI. 715-262-5404
