Carol Fischer

Carol Ann Fischer, age 80 of Prescott, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 20, 2020 at the Comforts of Home in River Falls. Carol was born December 5, 1939 in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Wesley and Verena (Reis) Nelson. She graduated from Prescott High School, with the Class of 1957. On September 24, 1960, Carol was united in marriage to Lawrence Albert Fischer in Ellsworth, WI. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Dawn, Kim, Joan, and Todd. Carol and Larry shared 56 years of marriage, until Larry’s passing on June 5, 2017. Carol worked at St. Croix Dale, and for Dr. Laney’s Office in Prescott, and remained in the medical profession until her retirement.

Carol was devoted to her faith, and was an active member of the Prescott United Church of Christ. She always looked forward to her time with friends through her involvement with “The Crafty Ladies” group at church. She also took great pride in volunteering at Prescott Freedom Park. Carol enjoyed crocheting, reading, and classic Country Western music. She treasured her time with her family at their cabin in Grantsburg, going to craft sales with her daughters, and watching her grandchildren in sporting and various school activities. She was an avid Wisconsin sports enthusiast, who delighted in cheering on the Badgers and Green Bay Packers.

Carol will remain in the hearts of her children, Kim (Mike) Pischke of Johnstown, OH, Joan (Bill) Koller of Prescott, WI, Todd (Sue) Fischer of Osseo, WI; son-in-law, Troy Viegut; grandchildren, Mandi Nelson, Zach (Lona) Pischke, Hilary (Alan) Smith, Jeremy (Caitlin) Koller, Mason Koller, Trevor, Tommy and Lucas Fischer, and Colin Schickling; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Paige, Hailey, Hannah, and a great-granddaughter on the way. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Nelson; sister, LuAnn (Tim) Traynor; and dear friend, Diane Olson.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her parents, Wesley and Verena Nelson; daughter, Dawn Viegut; and sister, Marlys Wold.

Funeral Services for Carol will take place 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 24, 2020 at the Prescott United Church of Christ, 206 Locust St., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Interment will take place at Pine Glen Cemetery in Prescott. Carol’s grandsons have the honor of assisting as pallbearers, and her granddaughters as honorary pallbearers.
