Edward Alan Nicholson, age 62, born February 22, 1958 in Hudson WI to parents Ted and Donna of River Falls WI, died suddenly on the evening of May 15, 2020 at the Cedar Lake Speedway, doing what he loved.
A life long resident of River Falls and a graduate of River Falls High School Class of 1977, Eddie spent his life helping and serving others – delivering Coca-Cola, as a tow truck operator, an EMT with River Falls Area Ambulance, and a River Falls firefighter who received his 30 year pin this past January, as well as the fixer/honey-doer for so many, never being able to say no, and never asking for anything in return.
Being a difficult task arriving at any scene, Eddie remained forever stoic while tending to the needs of others, appearing thick-skinned as a man of few words – all the while a tender-hearted softie. Tears were something Eddie could do, as the gentle giant he was.
Eddie spent his life doing the things he loved with all of his huge heart, whether it be in the grease, grime or mud.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and an infant nephew, Ryan. Eddie is survived by his best friend and the love of his life for 23 years, Kathy Straub; his parents, Ted Nicholson of River Falls, and Donna Nicholson of River Falls; his brother, Rick (Beth) Nicholson of River Falls; sister, Mary (Doug) White of River Falls; two generations of nieces and nephews; along with his brothers and sisters of River Falls Fire Department, River Falls Area EMS, Twin Cities Towing and Recovery, and Cedar Lake Speedway.
With the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic, his family has decided to refrain from holding services. Though his loved ones are still grieving such a sudden loss, they wish for everyone to know and understand that Eddie lived his life helping others and keeping them safe, and feel he would make the same tough decision given these circumstances.
