Janice Amberson

Janis Amberson age 77 of Prescott, Wisconsin, died September 30, 2021 at the Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. Janis was born on September 20, 1944 in Birmingham, Alabama; the daughter of Andrew and Nona Faye (Sanford) Amberson. She was raised in Birmingham, Alabama where she graduated from high school and attended Birmingham Southern College. She would further her education at the University of Georgia, in Athens, Georgia, where she received her Ph.D in psychology. Janis devoted her career to helping others. She took great pride in helping those afflicted by attention deficit disorder. Over the years, she worked at the University of Minnesota as well as the Mayo Clinic in Red Wing.

In 2001, she was united in marriage to her best friend Burton Levy in Minneapolis Minnesota. Together they found their little slice of heaven outside of Prescott where are they made their home into a prairie restoration. She truly loved the outdoors and appreciated the little things such as wildflowers and prairie grasses blowing gracefully in the wind. It didn’t matter what time of the year, as she enjoyed cross country skiing and always looked forward to her trips in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota. Her outgoing and upbeat personality will be missed by all of those who had a chance to meet her.

She will remain in the hearts of her husband Burt, daughter Laura Lochen (Stead), son-in-law Bill Lochen, and her beloved granddaughter Katheryn ‘Kat’. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband Eston Stead.

A private celebration of her life will be held later this month. Memorials may be directed to The Prairie Enthusiasts in her memory. Cremation Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Prescott; 1339 Orrin Road, PO Box 154 in Prescott, WI 54021.
