Robert Stanley “Bob” Nelson, age 79 of Ellsworth WI, died unexpectedly on December 25, 2019. Bob was born October 20, 1940 in Red Wing MN to parents George J. and Elsie C. (Bartlett) Nelson. Bob attended school in Ellsworth, graduating from Ellsworth High School with the Class of 1958. Bob served his country in the United States Marine Corps. On March 16, 1962 in Orange, California, Bob was united in marriage to Margaret Ann “Penny” Fierro.
A welder by trade, Bob worked for decades at Meyer Industries, and North Star Steel. Welding was something he did his entire life. Outside of work, Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing, and going to Iron River. Around the home and hobby farm, he raised all kinds of animals, such as horses, sheep, pigs, and cattle. Bob was a proud Marine, and a member of the Ellsworth American Legion. Bob especially enjoyed time spent with his family and grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Margaret “Penny”; his sons, Michael (Darcie) Nelson, and William Nelson; his granddaughter and adopted daughter, Ashley T. (Chris) Anderson; grandchildren, Courtney (Mark) Brunner, Jeremiah (Kayla) Nelson, Vanessa Nelson, and Cole Nelson; great-grandkids, Milania, Nettie, India and Juliana; brother, James Nelson; sister, Ann Dusek; brother-in-law, Jerry Schmidt; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Ann Nelson; siblings, Ruth (Dave) McWain, and Jane Schmidt.
Funeral Services for Robert “Bob” Nelson will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, December 30th at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, N3699 730th Street in Ellsworth WI. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, with military honors provided by the Ellsworth American Legion Post 204. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to services at the church, and also from 4:00-8:00pm on Sunday, December 29th at the O’Connell-Benedict Family Funeral Home, 130 N Grant Street in Ellsworth.
