Delmar Allen Dietsche

Delmar Allen Dietsche, age 84, of River Falls, WI died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Dec. 19, 2015.
Del served four years in the military after being selected as one of 200 recent college graduates across the country to attend Meteorology graduate school for the Air Force. He achieved the rank of Major and was one of the first television meteorologists in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada. While serving later in the National Guard, he was instrumental in the design of the Holman Field Weather Station in St. Paul. After his service, Del was employed by General Mills as a meteorologist in a division under contract with the military. He traveled to India to launch weather balloons to study radiation in the upper atmosphere.
In preparation for the close of that division at General Mills, he moved to 3M in St. Paul and retired from there after 31 years of service. He worked in several divisions in management including National Advertising and Visual Products. He worked with a group who developed and received a patent for overhead projectors.
Del enjoyed an active retirement with Irene and spending time with family and friends. For many years they spent winters in Florida enjoying the sport he loved most: golfing. Living across from the golf course in River Falls also gives a clue to his passion for the sport. When he wasn’t golfing, he and Irene were fortunate enough to travel the world. He also loved fishing with family both in Wisconsin and Canada. He was an avid sports fan whether he was coaching, or watching his beloved Vikings,Twins or Gophers. Above all, he loved and was dedicated to his wife and family. His initials say it all: he is our D.A.D.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Leonard, Wilbur and Herbert. Delmar is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Irene (Tiller) Dietsche; children, Catherine (Jim) Gates, David Dietsche, James (Desiree) Dietsche; grandchildren, Michael, Kristine, Alicia, Natalia, Mateo, Alex, Chelsey, Jade; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Pinter.
