Eugene Reynold Jonas, M.D.

Dr. Eugene Reynold Jonas, age 84, of River Falls, WI, formerly of Ellsworth, died Friday night at his home.Doc was born on February 17, 1930 in Red Wing, MN the son of Reynold and Lucille (Kull) Jonas.He is survived by his loving wife Theresa (Cudd) Jonas. Five children: Bill (Kathy Martino), son of Doc and Lois (“Schmoo”); Scott (Kim); Jeff (Christina); Tris Matthews; and Lisa (Jason) Elsen, children of Doc and Shelby. 12 grandchildren: Emily, Tyler, Chantel, Courtney, Austin, Peter, Randy, Lexi, Shane, Carmen, Whitney, and Sophia.Brother-in-law, Wallace (Mary) Cudd; and step Sisters in-law, Debbie Huppert, Sandy McTie and Cathy Most.Step mother-in-law, Romaine (Don) Shone. Doc is further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Wayne, sister Janet Frederickson, son in-law Jeff Matthews, and parents in-law, Walter and Betty Cudd, and step brother in-law, Pat Huppert.Doc’s Dash 1930-2014Doc never wasted a minute of time during the 84 years the Lord gave him. After graduating from the Red Wing High School he attended Lab and X-ray school in MN. During the Korean Conflict he joined the army and spent two and a half years in Alaska. After his honorable discharge from the army he entered pre-med at the U of M School of medicine during which he decided his area of expertise would be family practice. In 1961 he bought the existing practice of Dr. A.M. Aanes in Ellsworth, where he practiced family medicine until he retired from private practice in 1994. During this time he was Medical Director for the Ellsworth Area Ambulance for 33 years, President of the American Cancer Society Wisconsin Division for two years followed by an Honorary Life Membership in the ACS. He served on the Board of Medical Examiners for Nursing Homes for the state of Wisconsin for nine years. In 1990 he served as Chief of Staff for the new River Falls Area Hospital. For twenty plus years he served as the Pierce County Coroner After retirement, he continued practicing medicine by working in emergency rooms and urgent care clinics in Wisconsin and Minnesota. In addition, he was the Director of the Public Health Department for Pierce County for ten years. He was a Volunteer Fireman for Ellsworth for 27 years. He joined Hancock Lodge, F & A.M, in 1971, later serving as Master, along with other positions in the lodge. He was a member of Zor Shrine, Madison, and President of the St Croix Valley Shrine Club in 1975. He was a long time member of the Ellsworth Rod and Gun Club, active member of the American Legion and the 40/8 Voiture. He was a strong supporter of the Pierce County Humane Society where he adopted his best furry friends Blackie, Sugar, Socks, Sandy and Tootsie. His boundless energy lead to varied interests and hobbies; he was a beekeeper, a licensed pilot, a member of the National Ski Patrol in Colorado, a rock hound and excellent lapidarist, photographer, scuba diver and snorkeling pro. Most of all he was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend.In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Klaas-Jonas Pool, 312 W.
