David Jewell

David Herbert Jewell, age 35, of Lakeland, MN, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 15, 2010 at United Hospital in St. Paul. In the giving of his organs and tissues, he has saved and enhanced the lives of many.

David was born the son of Roger and Carolyn (Lofstrom) Jewell on November 13, 1974 in St. Paul, MN. He grew up with four brothers and a sister. At age 14, he was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. David was often thinking of creative ways to make the lives of those living with the disease easier and better. David graduated from Stillwater High School in 1993 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio. He became a published illustrator when his artwork was commissioned for the children’s book series, “If I Were a Farmer”. For this work, David received an honor award from the Beaver Pond Publishers. He also did graphic art, and more recently was becoming interested in pottery and ceramics.

He enjoyed downhill skiing, Frisbee golf, spinning vinyl on turntables, and his morning coffee. David went by the nickname “Gravy” to his college friends, and later his family, for “being smooth and consistent, but sometimes lumpy.” He was constantly pursuing perfection in his creative endeavors, disliked the spotlight, and was incredibly humble about his artistic talents. His dry sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

David will remain in the hearts of his parents Carolyn and Roger of Lakeland MN; four brothers: Christian (Darci) of Hammond WI, Terry (Sarah) of Robbinsdale MN, Tim (Cathy) of Connorsville WI, and Todd (Vicki) of Hunters WA; sister, Tonya (John) Larrew of Huters WA; 12 nieces & nephews: Ayrica, Baylee, Jessie, Caitlyn, Nathaniel, Tim, Ame, Elizabeth, JulieAnn, Paul David, Trisha, and Paul William; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of David’s Life will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 19th at Faith Community Church, 777 Carmichael Rd., Hudson. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at church and Sunday, July 18th from 3:00 until 6:00 PM, with a sharing time at 5:30, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, 715-386-3725.

In memory of David, memorials may be designated to the American Diabetic Association or the Kidney Foundation.
