Richard G. Krueger

Richard G. Krueger was born February 17, 1919 in the Town of Cylon, St. Croix County, WI. He died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at The Gathering at Boutwells Landing, Stillwater, MN. He was baptized, confirmed, and married in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Deer Park, WI. Cylon State Grade School provided his education through the 8th grade.

Family and home were important to Richard. He married Doris Powers on October 20, 1940. Four children were born to this marriage: Carol (Gary) Smith, Donna (Ted) Waech, Barbara Krueger and David (Jill) Krueger. Richard and Doris demonstrated working as a team during nearly 70 years of marriage.

Richard was a life-long dairy farmer, continuing as the third generation on the farm in Cylon Township. Richard and Doris took pride in their Holstein dairy herd and farm. People would remark over the years on how meticulous the farm was. Cleanliness was definitely next to godliness at the Krueger’s. He and Doris won numerous milk quality awards and DHIA records. He was respected by his peers who elected him to serve on various boards including: Midland Co-operative Board Baldwin, Cylon School Board, Clear Lake Creamery Board, Foremost Farms/Wisconsin Dairies Board, Upper Willow River Rehabilitation District Board and Cylon Town Board.

Hunting, fishing and trapping were among Richard’s hobbies when he was young. This love of nature continued throughout his lifetime ― the bird feeders were kept filled. The time spent as a sportsman and working on the threshing crew taught Richard a lot about the area he grew up in and got to know so well. Richard was very knowledgeable about the history of the Cylon/Deer park area. He loved to share his stories all you had to do was ask.

Richard loved and respected all animals. The dogs in his life ranged from hunting dogs when he was young to English Shepherds. His children and grandchildren’s dogs were welcome at the farm. His lap was always available to the barn and house cats.

Predeceasing Richard were his parents, Arthur and Gertrude Krueger, brother Ray, an infant sister, brothers-in-law Ralph Eggen, and Calvin ‘Bud’ Powers, and Byron ‘Bud’ Koeppen and sisters-in-law Arlene Faught Skafish and Irene Krueger.

Richard is survived by his wife Doris; their four children; three grandchildren (Nathan [Heather] Waech, Rebecca [Erik] Paulson, and Katie [Kyle] Pederson); three great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by brother Donnie (Bernice) Krueger and sister Alice Koeppen; sisters-in-law Ruth Johnson, Eleanor Eggen, and Glendetta Powers; many nieces and nephews and friends, including the caregivers at Boutwells Landing. Special thanks to April at Boutwells Landing for her care and attention during his residence at The Commons, Boutwells Landing.

Memorials are preferred and will be used to carry on Richard’s legacy.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 6, 2010 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, Baldwin, WI. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Deer Park, WI. The O’Connell Family Funeral Home Baldwin is in charge of arrangements.
