Harris Dux

Harris John Dux, age 82, of North Hudson, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 31, 2010 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul after suffering a stroke three days prior.

He was born the son of Otto and Amanda (Bub) Dux on March 24, 1928 in Neillsville, WI. As a young man, he was a talented musician. His family started a band, in which he played the trumpet. Quite often Harris would go to school, come home to do farm chores, and then go off to rehearse or play with the band. Too young to join the army, Harris was able to serve in the National Guard.  On December 3, 1952 he was united in marriage to Mary D. Olson in Baldwin, WI.

A budding businessman, Harris built and owned an A & W, and then a cheese factory in the small town of Colborn, WI. In 1963, he began working with Nash Coffee in Hudson, WI. Harris went on to sell commercial food equipment to restaurants and institutions, working with companies such as General Foods, Litton Industries, and Northstar Agency in the 1990’s; currently, he was working with his business partner and friend, Mike DeLuca.  Harris primarily worked in the mid-west, but he would also travel throughout the US. His work was definitely “in his blood”; it was not uncommon for vacations to be mixed with work. He was highly respected in his industry. In his free time, he enjoyed many years of fishing, hunting, and camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Amanda and his sister, Julie.  Harris is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary; three sons: Rich Dux (Susan) of Roberts, Dan Dux of Woodbury and Mike Dux (Tiffany) of North Hudson; five grandchildren: Ann Magee (Tim), Jerry Dux (Jessica), Adam Dux, Jonah Dux and Kate Jewell; four great-grandchildren:  Avary, Charlie, Hannah and Logan; sister, Marion; extended family and friends.

A memorial service for Harris will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 7th at Bethel Lutheran Church, 920 Third St. in Hudson. A visitation and viewing will take place on Monday, September 6th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St. in Hudson. There will also be time to greet the family one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be private. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home and Countryside Crematory, 715-386-3725.
