Wayne Allen Benoy, age 72, of Clear Lake and formerly of Hudson, WI died unexpectedly on Tuesday afternoon, September 28, 2010.

He was born the son of Kenneth and Alice (Baker) Benoy on July 1, 1938 in Hudson, WI. He graduated from Hudson High School where he had played on a winning Raider football team. He furthered his schooling and settled into a career that would last over 35 years in research and development at 3M.

On April 4, 1959, Wayne was united in marriage to Helen I. Jewell at the United Methodist Church in Hudson. They were blessed with two children, Becky and Donald. Wayne enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing – especially at the family cabin on Sunfish Lake in Spooner, and he was an avid woodworker. Wayne loved being a grandpa; he was always quick to inquire about what was going on his grandchildren’s lives.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Helen in 2008. He is survived by his daughter, Becky (Randy) Retherford of Roberts; son, Donald (Mary) Benoy of Hudson; six grandchildren: Stephanie Retherford of Concordia KS, Nicole (Dylan) Padgette of Miltonvale KS, Rance Retherford (Megan Lieffring) of Hudson WI, and Daniel, Alex & Morgan Benoy of Hudson WI; two great-grandchildren, Riley Allen Retherford and Ellen Autumn Padgette; two brothers, Verlyn (Catherine) Benoy of Clayton WI and Arlyn (Susan) Benoy of Hudson WI; sister-in-law, Delores (Wayne) Barnsdorf of Red Wing MN; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held for Wayne at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 2nd at the United Methodist Church of Hudson, 1401 Laurel Ave. Pastor Jane Ann of Clear Lake UMC will officiate and his grandchildren will serve as casketbearers. Interment to follow in Willow River Cemetery. Visitation for one hour prior to the service at church and on Friday from 5 until 7:00 PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, 715-386-3725.
