Martin H. Best

Martin Hugh Best, age 86 of North Hudson WI, died on Thursday, November 11, 2010. Martin was born on May 26, 1924 in New Richmond, WI to parents Hugh and Esther (Bjorkman) Best. His family moved to Saint Paul, MN, where Martin graduated from Johnson High School in 1942. Martin enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. On June 12, 1948, Martin would be united in marriage to Donna Jean Peterson at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in North Saint Paul, MN. Their union in marriage would be blessed with five children.

After discharge from the military, Martin attended the University of Minnesota to earn degrees in Zoology and Chemistry. Martin joined 3M, where he would embark on a 33 year career in sales, and establishing friendships. Martin was also proud of Best Communications, the small business he started 20 years ago in Saint Paul, MN. Outside of work, Martin enjoyed the outdoors through traveling and going fishing. Martin was a member of the VFW and American Legion, and a proud Republican who enjoyed socializing and visiting with others, and keeping current on the stock market. Martin also served as a member on the Lake Mallalieu Association, and with SCORE, the Service Corps of Retired Executives.

Martin will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his sons, Marty (Sue) Best, Tom (Beth) Best, and Dr. Steve (Paulette) Best; daughters, Cindy Malone, and Julie (Lou Moegenburg) Best; fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bill Bachman; sister-in-law, Joann Seibel; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his mom, Esther; and his sister, Norma Bachman.

Mass of Christian Burial for Martin Best will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, November 15, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson WI, with Rev. Father Dan Dahlberg officiating. Burial will follow at the Willow River Cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be held 1 hr prior to services at the church, and also from 3:00-6:00PM on Sunday, with a 6:00PM Prayer Service, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, WI. Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, WI. 715-386-3725
