Steve “Stevie” Schmidt

Steve “Stevie” Schmidt, age 47 of Baldwin WI and formerly of Omaha NE, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, January 3, 2011, as the result of an aneurysm.  Steve was born on February 24, 1963, in Omaha NE, and became the adopted son of Ralph and Helen (nee Cox) Schmidt. Steve grew up in the Omaha area, and graduated from Millard High School of Millard NE.

Steve worked many different jobs after moving to the St Croix County area, and most recently was employed with the Donaldson Corporation at their plant in Baldwin. Steve’s favorite part of the work day was when he clocked out – that’s when it was time to get together with his friends! Steve enjoyed being amongst friends, rooting for the Green Bay Packers, and watching NASCAR. Most of all, Steve loved to spend time in the outdoors. Whether he was hunting or fishing, being in the outdoors was Steve’s favorite place to be.

Steve is survived by his father, Ralph (Susan) Schmidt of New Richmond WI; mother, Helen (Fred) Gernandt of Omaha NE; brother, Scott (Louise) Schmidt of Port Washington WI; his biological brother, Steve Inserra of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, who Steve made contact with more than 20 years ago; nieces, Stephenie, Crystal, Leigha, and Ellie; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Schmidt; biological brother Jamie Wells, and his grandparents.

A Memorial Celebration of Steve’s life will be held from 3:00-7:00 PM on Friday evening, January 7, 2011, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton Street in Baldwin.  A “Last Call” Remembrance Service for Steve will begin at 6:45PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family. Services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home and Countryside Crematory of Baldwin WI, 715-684-3434.
