Patrick J. Sobota

Patrick Joseph Sobota, age 56, of Wilson, WI, died suddenly on July 4, 2011. Patrick was born on March 14, 1955 to Theodore and Amelia (Lenk) Sobota in Browerville, MN. At the age of 15 Patrick’s family moved to St. Paul and Patrick would later graduate from Johnson High School with the class of 1972. Patrick attended the St Paul Vocational Technical School where he learned carpentry. Upon completing his classes, Patrick worked as a carpenter with construction companies, building homes and buildings. He would become a lifetime member of the Carpenter’s Union #87. In 1976 Patrick met Mary Marine. The two would be united in marriage at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St Paul on October 6, 1979. This marriage would be blessed with two sons, Joseph and Anthony. In 1985, with a desire to do some farming, Patrick and his family purchased a 20 acre farm in Woodville where they milked Holsteins. Then in 1997 they made one more move to Wilson. Patrick sold the Holsteins and focused his energy on crop farming. Patrick continued to work construction until his retirement in April of 2010 and then went on to work his fields full time.

Patrick was an active man who demonstrated what it meant to have a good work ethic. He loved the land and always took pride in having “well manicured fields”. When he wasn’t working his crops, he tended to the flowers and vegetables he was raising around his home. He loved time with his family and always looked forward to the annual trip they took in the summer after bringing in first crop. With his family by his side he saw most of the fifty states and enjoyed some bus trips and cruises. He also had an adventurous streak looking for opportunities to go horseback riding or rafting while on his vacations. In his younger years he also built cars and competed in drag racing. Patrick was always a socialite, excited to spend time with friends while at the same time, making news ones. He enjoyed learning about state and national history and wherever he was, he was followed by his Yellow Lab, Coach.

Patrick will be dearly missed by his family. This includes his; wife, Mary; sons, Joseph of Appleton, WI and Anthony (girlfriend, Caroline Hauger) of Woodbury, MN; siblings, James Sobota of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Theodore (Carol) Sobota of Biglerville, PA, Barbara (Leander) John of Brainerd, MN, Carolyn (Larry) Tastad of Cottage Grove, MN, Mary Ebnet of Pequot Lakes, MN, Rita “Jo” Rosen of Palm Dessert, CA, Margaret Chyba of Clearwater, MN, and Michael (Gail) Sobota of Lakeville, MN. He is further survived by his brothers-in-law, Steve (Terry) Marine of New Richmond, WI and John Marine of Menomonie, WI and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

Patrick is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Amelia (Lenk) Sobota and a sister, Ann Marie Budin.
