Louis “Luffer” Frank

Louis John “Luffer” Frank, age 85 of Hammond, died Thursday February 6, 2014 at the Baldwin Area Medical Center.  Luffer was born on June 16, 1928 in Hammond; the son of Louis and Mary (Madle) Frank Sr. Being raised in Hammond, he graduated from Hammond High School. Luffer had a long and memorable career with the St. Croix Highway Department. He thoroughly enjoyed his co-workers and friendships he created over the years. He retired from the department in 1989.

Luffer enjoyed fishing. His first love was trout fishing, but as time went on he became a fan of pan fishing; especially at Big Round Lake and hunting near Dairyland, Wisconsin. He served on the Hammond Cemetery board over 20 years. He cherished his family. He had a close relationship with his sister Mary Ann and treated her children as if they were his own. Luffer’s optimistic demeanor and infectious smile lit up a room.

He will be remembered by his sister Mary Ann Bond of Hammond; nieces/nephews Bruce Bond, Lola (Gene) Visger, Glen (Bonnie) Bond, Sally (Dan) Doornink, John (Jane) Bond, many great nieces and nephews, and even more great great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; stillborn sibling, brother-in-law Elmo Bond, and niece Shirley Ann Bond.

Funeral service for Luffer Frank will be 11AM Tuesday February 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hammond. Burial will be in the Hammond Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 5PM to 7PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin and one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday morning.
