Maxine A. Muckenhirn age 90 of River Falls, formerly of Hudson died Monday June 23, 2014 at the Kinnic Nursing Home in River Falls.
Maxine was born on December 23, 1923 in Hudson; the daughter of Iver and Alice (Persells) Severson. At age 2, she was adopted by Blanche and Adolph Shern after her mother’s death in childbirth. She was raised in Hudson where she would graduate from Hudson High School in the class of 1941. In 1943, she would be married to John ”Sherm”” Peterson at Zion Lutheran in Hudson. To this union; children Sherry, Scott, and Terry were born. Sadly, Terry’s twin brother Larry died at birth. This union would later end in divorce. Maxine worked many years as a telephone operator for the Wisconsin Phone Company, or ””Ma Bell”” as Maxine would say. In 1974, she was married to Virgil Muckenhirn. They made Hudson there home until his death in 2003.
Maxine was an avid reader of just about anything she could get her hands on. She loved family genealogy as her English lineage dated back to the Mayflower. Maxine loved looking up old records and family histories. She was a proud member of the Wisconsin Society Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Croix-Chequamegon Chapter. Maxine also loved giving Willis Miller a run for his money with the history of Hudson. In her younger years she loved playing sports, being in the outdoors, and target shooting. One of her greatest hobbies was music as she was extremely talented playing the piano.
Maxine leaves to celebrate her life, her children; Sherry (Bill) Burke of Hudson, Scott (Barb) Peterson of Hudson, Terry Peterson of Hudson; five grandchildren, Gregory (Holly) Burke, Colleen Burke, Caralee Burke, Nancy (Brian) Steffen and Nicole (Michael) Launderville; and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant son Larry, siblings Margaret, Hazel, Shirley, Lloyd, and Donald.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 2PM Saturday June 28 at Bethel Lutheran Church (Downtown). There will be no visitation; a reception will follow the service. Memorials are preferred.
