Lawrence “Larry” Parfitt

Larry Parfitt, age 75 of New Richmond, formerly of Hudson, died peacefully Monday, September 8, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Respectfully known as ”Mr. Parfitt”” or ””Coach Parfitt”” to many students and athletes.

Larry was born June 1, 1939 in New London, Wisconsin, the son of Merton and Lauretta Parfitt. He graduated from Washington High School in New London in 1957. He attended college for a year and a half at WSU Superior. He left college to serve a tour in the US Air Force. In 1964 he was united in marriage to Judy Ferdon in Portage, Wisconsin. Larry and Judy were blessed with two children, Scott and Sara. In 1966 Larry and Judy returned to Superior for Larry to finish his schooling. He graduated from WSU Superior in 1969 with a Master of Science Teaching. His first teaching position was in Abbotsford, Wisconsin for two years. In 1971 he took a position at Hudson High School teaching and coaching. He was instrumental in organizing the

Hudson Traveling Basketball association. He had many fond memories from both the classroom and from coaching. In 1999 Larry retired from Hudson High School. After retiring he was very involved with his church serving on many committees. He was also very active with the Christian Community Homes of Hudson, where he served on the Board of Directors for 8 years. Larry was also the worship leader coordinator for Sunday morning worship services at CCH. He also did the Starlab presentations at schools in northwestern Wisconsin for CESA 11 for 10 years. Larry enjoyed deer hunting up north and in Wyoming with his friends, fishing, bowling, traveling across this great country with Judy, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Merton and Lauretta Parfitt. Larry is survived by his loving wife Judy of almost 50 years, son Scott Parfitt, daughter Sara(Tom) Holt, sister Donna(James) Russell, grandchildren Lindsay, Tristan, Tayler , Zac, and Ali, several nieces and nephews and cousins, and extended family.

Funeral services for Larry will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, 1401 Laurel Ave., Hudson. A visitation will take place 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 14 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 So. Eleventh St., Hudson, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at church. Larry’s interment will take place at the Willow River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society.
