Mary E. Marzolf

Mary Elizabeth Marzolf

Age 74 of Hudson, WI. Surrounded by her loving and grateful family, Mary passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Loretto Schulte, Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.

She is survived by her husband, Buzz, and by her children:  Mary Beth (Chris) Kissling and their two sons, Patrick and Philip; Tom Marzolf; Mike (Nerissa) Marzolf and their three children, Tommy Gander Ostrom, Megan and Leo; and by Anne Marie (James) Groetsch and their three sons, Maxwell, Harrison and Cooper. 

Mary is  also survived by her 6 younger siblings:  Ed (Margo) Schulte, Anne Marie Browning, Therese McGratty, Paul (Nancy) Schulte, Margie (Mike) Ashby and by John (Colleen) Schulte, as well as by many nieces and nephews and their children. 

Mary was a registered nurse, having served on the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul in the late 1960s and early 1970s.  She then became the School Nurse at Convent of the Visitation School in Mendota Heights, MN, where she served in that capacity for 20 years.

Following her retirement from Visitation in 1996, she worked for several years as a Pharmacy Tech at the County Market Pharmacy in Hudson, WI.  She also spent considerable time with the St. Croix Valley Parish Nurse Program, representing that association on the Ethics Committee at Lakewiew Hospital Health System. 

Mary was also a volunteer at the Hudson Hospital, participating on its Patient Experience Team and on the Healthier Together Committee.  She served as a Nurse Consultant at the Our House Assisted Living facilities in River Falls and New Richmond, WI.  Most recently she worked as a Nursing Consultant at the Burkwood Residential Treatment Center in Hudson, WI. 

One of Mary’s passions was walking with her children in the tall prairie grass of the Wisconsin Campus of the Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center (the farmland on which her husband had grown up). 
At Mary’s generous request, her body was donated to the Mayo Clinic Anatomical Bequest Program on the day of her death. 

Her wake will take place on Monday evening, October 27, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, WI.  Mary’s Mass of Christian Resurrection … celebrating her life … will be Tuesday morning, October 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 1500 Vine St., Hudson, WI, preceded by a 1-hour visitation. 

Memorials are preferred to Convent of the Visitation School, ADORAY Home Health and Hospice, St. Patrick’s Church, Hudson, WI, Minnesota Oncology, St. Croix Valley Parish Nurse Program, Our House, or to the Carpenter St. Croix Valley Nature Center.
