Opal Porter

Opal May Porter, age 90 of Hudson, passed away January 10, 2015, surrounded by her family at Pine Ridge Assisted Living in Hudson. Opal was born November 12, 1924 in Grove Lake, MN; the daughter of Lloyd and Leta Adams. She was united in marriage on February 8, 1942 at First Baptist Church in Stillwater to Frank Porter. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Sharon, Bonnie, Vicki and Frank. Opal worked many years as a waitress with Bob Smith’s Sports Club and Hudson Harbor. She and her husband Frank also operated their own catering business, “Porter’s Catering,” for many years. Opal loved the catering business, the socializing and friendships that came along with it. In her quiet time, she enjoyed sewing – making her own clothes and clothes for others. She was a devoted Green Bay Packer fan, and took great delight cheering her team on. Opal also appreciated listening and dancing to Country music. Above all, her family was the light of her life.

Opal will remain in the hearts of her children, Sharon (Ed) Triebold, Vicki (Donald) Gerhardt, and Frank R. Porter; son-in-law, Pat Shinners, grandchildren: Chad Hillman, Jessie (Jim) LaVenture, Brenda Foley and Gina Foley; step-grandchildren, Scott and Brian Gerhardt; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, June Porter Waldroff. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; daughter, Bonnie; grandson, Matthew James; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral services for Opal will take place 2:00 PM Thursday, January 15, 2015 at United Methodist Church, 1401 Laurel Avenue, Hudson, with Reverend Bruce Stunkard officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place at Willow River Cemetery in Hudson.
