Genevieve Gust (nee: Nibbe)

Genevieve Gust, age 93 of Northfield, MN, formerly of River Falls, WI, passed away August 25, 2015 at the Northfield Care Center.  Genevieve was born May 14, 1922 in New Rockford, ND, the daughter of Harry and Bessie (Schroeder) Nibble.  She was raised in North Dakota where she attended elementary school prior to graduating from Humbird High School, Humbird, Wisconsin, in the Class of 1940.  As a young lady, she enlisted in the armed forces where she proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corp.  “Semper fidelis,” literally meaning ‘Always Faithful’ was a motto she lived her entire life by. Genevieve was united in marriage to George Hardan.  Their marriage later dissolved, but was blessed with two sons, Duane and Dudley.  Genevieve graciously provided for her family, taking care of her sons and home.  She worked as a cook for the Brauthuss House in River Falls and did custodial work for the Humbird School.  She was later remarried to Gerald Gust, who preceded her in death. They lived in Arizona for many years.

Genevieve treasured wintering/living in Arizona and spending time with her sisters in the Dakotas, recalling their younger days. She was a vivacious grandmother who was readily seen on the floor playing with her grandchildren and building forts. Genevieve was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan, loved a good Elderberry wine, playing Bingo, sewing, watching old westerns, listening to old country music, and reading a good Louie LaMore book.

She is survived by her sons, Duane (Marsha) Hardan of Hudson, WI, and Dudley (Virginia) Hardan of Tennessee; grandchildren: Sharon (Nicolas) Kervadec, Michael (Seanes) Hardan, Daniel Hardan, and Sarah Hardan; great-grandchildren: Samantha, Duane, Olivia, and Isabella; sister, Delores Olingy; and the rest of her extended Gust family.

She is preceded in death by her husbands; siblings: Marge, Dorothy, Lendal “John”, Norman, Marvin, Darrell, Kenneth, and Alfred.

A Memorial Service for Genevieve will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson with a gathering one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
