Russell Lund

Russell A. Lund, age 92 of Woodville WI, died peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the Parkview Community Campus in Woodville surrounded by family. Russell was born October 5, 1923 in Baldwin WI to parents Arthur and Irene (nee Hartwig) Lund. He was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Norwegian Lutheran Church in Baldwin. He graduated from Baldwin High School with the Class of 1941. During his high school years, Russell worked for Sam Rosen’s grocery in Baldwin. He then went on to serve his country during WWII in the United States Navy aboard the battleship USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) as a storekeeper.

Upon returning from the service, Russell went into the business of buying and selling poultry. He would be united in marriage to Lucille Riek on August 6, 1954. Their union would be blessed with three children, Art, Tom, and Barb. Russell was a family man, who cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. Russell was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He was a lover of nature and planted all the trees on their land. Many will remember his affinity for antique cars, especially those of the early 1900’s.

Russell had a deep heart for his community. That importance showed through his consistent involvement throughout Woodville, serving both in roles of support and leadership. Russell was the last living charter member of the Woodville Lions Club organized in 1952, a member of the Woodville American Legion and the VFW, a past member of the Woodville Economic Development Corporation, the Woodville Village Board, and the board of the Citizens State Bank. Russell was enthusiastic about the annual Syttende Mai celebration and he enjoyed organizing many parades. Russell was well known among the community and will be missed by many.

Russell is survived by his wife, Lucille; son, Art (Lynette) Lund; daughter Barb (Eva Jensen) Lund; grandchildren, Kellie (Jason) Horzewski, Briana Lund, Amy (Andrew) Ryan, and TJ (Morgan Trunkel) Lund; siblings, Margie Lund, Vernon Lund, Kathryn (Joe) Passow, and Clifford (Alice) Lund; sister-in-law, Marlys Lund; as well as nephews, a niece, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Tom Lund; daughter-in-law, Joan Lund; his parents, Arthur and Irene; brother, Jim Lund; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Lund.

Funeral Services for Russell Lund will be held at 10:30am on Saturday morning, October 24th at the Zion Lutheran Church, 221 Lockwood Street in Woodville. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, and Friday from 4:00-8:00pm at Zion Lutheran. Burial will be in the Sunset Cemetery in Woodville with military honors provided by the Woodville American Legion Post #301. Memorials preferred to Zion Lutheran Church.
