Helen A. Wevers

Helen A. Wevers, age 84 of Baldwin, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2016 at the Baldwin Care Center.  Her time of service for her Lord complete, she is now at rest with her husband George again.  In God’s perfect time, Helen was born June 24, 1931 at the family farmstead in Baldwin to Nicholas and Tannie (DeMotts) Meyer.  She attended elementary school at the Hammond Christian School and graduated from Baldwin High School, the Class of 1949.  Helen was united in marriage to George Bernard Wevers on December 23, 1950 at the Christian Reformed parsonage by Rev. Evenhuis.  God blessed their union with four daughters, Faye, Wanda, Tracey, and Vickie.  Helen and George shared 60 blessed years together, until his passing in March of 2011.

Helen was a loving wife and mother; using her skills of gardening, canning, and baking, she made a wonderful home and cared for her family with such a gracious heart.  She was especially fond of tending to her African violets, and enjoyed the peacefulness of watching the birds through the dining room window.  In her quiet time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and other needlework.  To this day, her blankets and afghans bring warmth and comfort to her family.  Most important to Helen was her faith and her love for her family, which served as a wonderful and constant example to her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Helen will remain in the hearts of her daughters:  Faye (Scott) Ross of St. Louis Park, MN, Wanda (Loren) Potthoff of Englewood, CO, Tracey Luehrs of Farmington, MN, and Vickie (John) Westing of Zeeland, MI; 10 grandchildren:  Megan (Nick) Crosby, Katie Ross, Jason Potthoff, Alex Luehrs, Nathan Luehrs, Elizabeth Westing, Emily Westing, and Stephanie Westing; 3 great-grandchildren, Harmon, Dylan, and Destiny; sisters, Norma Kennedy of Whitehall, MI and Kathy Wagonmaker of Beloit, WI; brothers, Lee Meyer of Janesville, WI and Michael (Karen) Meyer of Holland, MI.  She was preceded in death by her husband, George Bernard Wevers; granddaughter, Pam Potthoff; sister, Muriel Achterhof; brother, Raymond Meyer; her parents; as well as many special in-laws.

Funeral services for Helen will take place 11:00 AM Monday, March 21, 2016 at the Christian Reformed Church, 893 Hwy 63, Baldwin, with Pastor Anson Veenstra officiating.  A visitation will take place 4:00 – 7:00 PM Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton St., Baldwin.  Private interment will take place at the Baldwin Cemetery.  Pallbearers assisting with the services will be: Megan and Nick Crosby, Katie Ross, Alex Luehrs, Nathan Luehrs, Elizabeth Westing, Corbin DeSautell, and Greg Wevers.  Honorary pallbearers will be:  Jason Potthoff, Emily Westing, Stephanie Westing, Andre Westby, and Dylan Potthoff.  The family of Helen would like to thank Adoray Hospice and the Baldwin Care Center staff for their loving caring. Memorials are preferred to the Christian Reformed Church – World Vision Ministries.
