Laurie Marie Strate, age 60 of Roberts, passed away September 11, 2016 at the Deerfield Arbors in New Richmond with her loving family by her side. Laurie was born June 1, 1956 in New Richmond, WI, the daughter of Donald and Constance Marlene (Olson) Hanson. She graduated from New Richmond High School, the Class of 1974. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Arlen Dale Strate on October 8, 1977 at the United Methodist Church in New Richmond. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Tawnya and Jonathan. Laurie was the church secretary at Cross Lutheran Church in Roberts for many years, until the onset of Dementia.

Most important to Laurie was her family and her faith. She was an exceptional cook and baker, and delighted in graciously hosting to her family and friends. You were sure to always be welcomed with a smile from Laurie. She was an avid bowler, and held an high average on her league. Laurie was talented in ceramics, and was fond of giving her completed projects to her loved ones. She also was a gifted in crocheting and had a special touch with beautiful afghans and kitchen towels. Laurie was a devoted MN Vikings fan, and enjoyed cheering on her team. Laurie appreciated her time away at bed and breakfasts’ with Arlen, family trips to Disney World, and looked forward to sharing those special times together.

Laurie will remain in the hearts of her husband, Arlen; daughter, Tawnya (Bradley) Cran of New Richmond; son, Jonathan Strate (Whitney Kane) of Roberts; mother, Marlene Hanson of New Richmond; four grandsons: Jamison, Evan, Oliver and Riley; brother, Dan (Karen) Hanson of New Richmond; sister, Cindy (Mark) Hansen of FL; mother-in-law, Marge Strate of Roberts; brother-in-law, Joel Strate of Roberts; sister-in-law, Lynn Strate of Apple Valley, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by father, Donald Hanson; and father-in-law, Russell Strate.

Visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, as well as one hour prior to the service on Friday at church. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 16, 2016 at Cross Lutheran Church, 1246 County TK TT, Roberts, with Rev. Durk Peterson officiating. Interment will take place at the New Richmond Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic – Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.
