Roy Hart

Roy Glen Hart, age 77 of Hudson, passed away October 12, 2016 at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond after a hard fought battle with cancer since 2004. Roy was born October 28, 1938 in Hudson, the son of West and Hannah (Sorenson) Hart. On December 24, 1938, Roy was baptized at his family’s home. He attended Hudson High School, and entered into the service. Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard from October 1955 to October 1963. He was united in marriage on May 16, 1970 to Evangeline Marie Scott at First Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. Roy worked at River City Millwork and did maintenance at the Hudson Hospital for many years. He proudly owned and operated Olde World Bakery from 1989 until his retirement in 1999. He and Evangeline learned by doing and took great pride in making everything from scratch.

Roy was a true outdoorsman, finding peace in the beauty of his surroundings in fishing, hunting, and rock and agate collecting. He was a animal whisperer; helping rescue an injured eagle and finding tremendous peace in releasing it back to the wild. He also enjoyed feeding the deer and birds, and having them come right up to him with his gentle ways. Roy was a gifted wood worker, and made numerous banks and cedar chests for others to enjoy. Roy was well entertained by hitting the golf ball around in his yard. He appreciated trains and was fond of collecting model trains. He enjoyed traveling with Evangeline and delighted in his trips to the casino.

Roy is survived by his sister, Laura Rankin of Idaho; brothers, Larry (Doris) Hart of Hudson and David (Arlene) Hart of Hudson; sisters-in-law, Katie (Daryl) Jones of Hudson, Norma Jean (Kevin) Mabry of St. Croix Falls and Lola Scott of Hudson; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Linda) Scott of Las Vegas and Tom (Mary) Scott of Hastings; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evangeline; parents, West and Hannah Hart; his sisters, Virginia Evans and Doris Mondor; and brother, Don West Hart.
