Dean A. Schwalm

Dean Arthur Schwalm, age 59 of Afton, passed away November 2, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Dean was born January 30, 1957 in St. Paul, MN, the son of Arthur William and Nancy Catherine (Edgell) Schwalm. He graduated from St. Anthony Village High School, the Class of 1975. He furthered his education at University of Wisconsin Stout, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Dean worked as an engineer for Honeywell for many years. Dean’s life was blessed with two children, Daniel and Elizabeth.

In his younger years, Dean loved the thrill of motocross racing. He began racing the circuit at age 15, and raced until 30 years of age. Not only did he love fast motorcycles, he also loved fast cars. Dean’s mechanical ways found him to be quite accomplished in taking apart engines and building them from ground up. Some of his favorite time was spent in his shop fixing up cars and motorcycles. Dean appreciated the beauty and peacefulness of the outdoors, gardening and taking care of his property with Jayne Goldamer. Together they enjoyed watching and playing golf, and watching Packer and Badger football. A social and outgoing guy amongst his many friends, Dean took pride in being the kind of person who would lend a hand to others. He was a patient and accepting father, teaching his children throughout their lives.

Dean will remain in the hearts of his son, Daniel (Samantha) of Watertown, SD; daughter, Elle (fiance, Matt Wells) Schwalm of Afton; granddaughter, Piper Schwalm; best friend and love, Jayne Goldamer of Victoria, MN; mother, Nancy Schwalm of Scottsdale, AZ; brothers, Craig (Carolyn) Schwalm of Scottsdale, AZ and Daren (Penny) Schwalm of Plymouth, MN; 4 nephews: Michael, Takoda, Evan and Alex; and countless friends. Dean was preceded in death by his father, Arthur.

A Celebration of Dean’s Life will take place from 1:00 – 3:00 PM Saturday, November 12, 2016 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson. A Time of Reflection and Sharing will take place at 2:30 PM.
