Thomas McCombie

Thomas G.F. McCombie, Jr., age 85, of Hudson, WI, passed away on March 26, 2017 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson. 

Thomas was born on July 1, 1931 in Marquette, MI to Thomas G.F. McCombie, Sr. and Gertrude (Holapaa) McCombie. In 1951, Thomas enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War Theater. After his discharge, he attended Michigan Technology University in Houghton, MI, graduating in 1959 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He married Nancy Lynn Bergh in 1957 and two sons were born to this union, Thomas G.F. III and Michael Wallace. Tom was employed as a chemical engineer at 3M from 1959-1974, moving to Hudson, WI in 1968. Later, he worked as a chef at the Sport’s Club, Valley House, and Pizza Hut until his retirement in 1993. After retirement, Tom worked for the Fairfield Inn, and later for McGlynn’s Bakery. In 1971, Thomas married LaVonne Obermueller Meulemans. He was a life member of the VFW, a Wisconsin Historical Society member and enjoyed traveling, camping, and woodworking. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two younger brothers, Gerald McCombie and Leroy McCombie. 

Survived by his sister Karen St. John; first wife, Nancy; present wife, LaVonne; 2 sons, Thomas III (Debra) and Michael McCombie;  grandchildren: Thomas (Yuliya) McCombie IV, Steven McCombie, Lucas McCombie, Catherine (Robert) Scott, and Rebecca (Anthony) Reams; 6 step-children: Michael (Alice) Meulemans, Joseph (Sue) Meulemans, Peter (Cindy Starr) Meulemans, Marianne (Mike) Recend, Julie  Meulemans Cole, and Jacquelyn Meulemans Globke; 8 step-grandchildren: Ben (Katie) Cole, Brandon (Amber) Cole, Aaron Meulemans, Nicholas (Samantha) Meulemans, Jabez Meulemans (Emma Hussey), Andrew Globke, Jacob Globke, and Connor Meulemans; 3 great-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren.  

Visitation for Tom will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at church Saturday morning. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1500 Vine St., Hudson, with a visitation held one hour prior to the Mass at church. Interment at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.
